@Heart
has been extended through Feb 24, 2008
due to popular demand!!
Here is what some people have to say:
“…a fittingly straightforward and sincere staging…the stakes are high, and
the feelings intense...seamless production elements." - Los Angeles Times
“Recommended”
“…the resulting mood is intimate…Myers is touching and so is McClendon as
his increasingly desperate wife.” – LA Weekly
"@Heart is a meaty, well-written play. These are solid, middle-class
Americans, initially naïve, sentimental, and well intentioned…they speak in
a language that the audience can identify with, and it is impossible not to
sympathize with them.” - Santa Monica Daily Press “Recommended”
"Thanks to honest portrayals, this production builds emotional intensity
that leads to a satisfying conclusion." - Backstage
"...a lively and engaging evening of theater. The actors, both excellent,
were Jessica McClendon and Mike Myers.” - Reviewplays.com “Recommended”
"Both actors, while young, give performances that are worthy of more mature
players…there is so much going on and so much emotion…one can often
visualize the actions behind the words.” Santa Monica Mirror - Recommended

Running Fridays and Saturdays at 8pm and Sundays at 2pm
Los Angeles, CA – The Ruskin Group Theatre proudly presents the 2007/2008 season opener World Premiere production of @HEART by J-Powers.
On a contemporary home front in Southern California…the lives of a young family take a stunning turn when a soldier prepares for service. Discovering the courage, loyalty, and love that it takes to keep a family together in a post 9/11 world fails to prepare them for the challenges they face in the shadow of war. This epistolary account through heartfelt e-mails gives testimony to the passion of their relationship, and the consequence of each decision.
The creative team includes award winning director Paul Linke (LADCC Award, CAA award nomination for the HBO version of his play TIME FLIES WHEN YOU’RE ALIVE, ADA for Best Director of an original play, and multi-nominee for the Ovation Award). Paul was a co-founder of the Garden Theatre Festival and the Powerhouse Theatre in Santa Monica where he became the original Artistic Director. Paul’s other plays include LIFE AFTER TIME which premiered at the Pasadena Playhouse, and FATHER TIME (directed by Charles Nelson Reilly) at Pacific Resident Theatre, where he staged the world premiere of THE 60’s featuring Mariette Hartley. He is widely recognized for his inimitable staging of solo shows with talent such as Shelly Berman and Sammy Shore as well as being a prized director for numerous productions at the Ruskin Group Theatre. In New York, Paul is well known for his many theatrical projects including NOBODY DON’T LIKE YOGI starring Ben Gazzara.
Playwright J-Powers is the celebrated author of numerous original stage adaptations for compelling contemporary events. These include The Court-Martial of William Calley, McMartin Preschool Trial, The Examination of Mrs. Anne Hutchinson at the Court at Newton, Trial of Lenny Bruce, and The Army-McCarthy Hearings. Producer Mike Myers, who is also the Ruskin’s managing director, has produced more than 25 shows since 2002. He is a co-creator of the Ruskin’s critically acclaimed LA CAFÉ PLAYS, a monthly offering of one-acts that are done in 10 1/2 hours from conception to staging. Ruskin Group Theatre is making an impact on the Los Angeles theatrical scene with an eclectic mix of thought provoking plays and programs. With its unique location at the Santa Monica Airport and a vigorously talented ensemble of artists, the company brings a well appreciated humanistic sensibility to the Westside.
